The pervasive racism that led to George Floyd’s murder has been out in the open for all to see throughout the day today.

At the street level, as protestors in Minneapolis demanded justice early this morning, police approached CNN reporter Josh Campbell, who is white: "I identified myself," Campbell reports. "They said, 'OK, you're permitted to be in the area.'"

Then police approached CNN’s Omar Jimenez, who is black and Latino, and was live on the air nearby. With the TV camera still rolling, they arrested Jimenez and took him and his crew to jail.

Meanwhile from the White House, the president called protesters in Minneapolis who were demanding justice for murder "thugs," and threatened, "when the looting starts, the shooting starts." This same president just weeks ago called mobs of heavily armed right-wing protesters in Michigan "very good people."

Two Black-led groups in Minneapolis are supporting those demanding justice directly. Please support them:

Minnesota Freedom Fund: This fund pays bail for protesters, as well as those imprisoned for immigration and criminal offenses. The group sees pretrial bail requirements to be unjust, wealth-based discrimination. Click here to donate.

Northstar Health Collective: Medics for protesters. The group of nurses, doctors, and healthcare providers was originally founded to maintain community safety during the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Click here to donate.

Two other Black-led Minnesota groups are also doing work that is crucial in the long-term:

Black Visions Collective: "A political home for black people across Minnesota," this Minnesota nonprofit is dedicated to safe, autonomous black communities. Click here to donate.

Reclaim The Block: Reclaim the Block focuses on real solutions for community safety in Minneapolis -- investments in violence prevention, housing, resources for youth, emergency mental health response teams, and solutions to the opioid crisis -- not more police. Click here to donate.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
