Monte Rio Redwoods is nestled deep in west Sonoma County, sharing a border with public lands to the east and west. Take a look at the map and you’ll see how this acquisition will fill a crucial gap between conserved lands.
This property is the missing piece of a puzzle that will create a thriving, connected future for the forest and waterways of Sonoma County.

Connect California redwoods!
The League is proud to partner with so many like-minded, trusted conservation organizations to make this purchase possible. This united front has allowed us to move quickly on such a high-priority acquisition – as has the generosity and action of forest lovers like you [[link removed]] .
If we can successfully acquire this property, the League will transfer all 1,517 acres to Sonoma County Regional Parks, enabling an expansion of Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve from 515 acres to 2,032 acres.
This would be an incredibly meaningful increase in access to recreation and outdoor spaces for local Equity Priority Communities (EPCs) and Environmental Justice Communities (EJCOCs) who have been historically underserved and disproportionally affected by poor land use practices that began in the 1850’s.
And the expansion of these parklands would be just the beginning, with potential for future trail connections to the beaches and campgrounds of Sonoma Coast State Park! [[link removed]]
Crucially, acquisition of this property provides an amazing opportunity to restore the health of the ancestral lands of the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians and the Southern Pomo territory of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. This land is diverse and rich in history and culture.
