Team,

I wanted to reach out personally about what happened on the House floor last week because the stakes could not be higher. House Republicans narrowly passed a budget resolution that lays the groundwork for devastating cuts to Medicaid and SNAP—programs that millions of Americans rely on to stay healthy and put food on the table.

I voted against this harmful measure, and I want you to know exactly why.

This vote was the first step in the budget reconciliation process, which Republicans are using to push through their priorities without bipartisan support. With their razor-thin majority, they managed to muscle through a budget blueprint that opened the door for cuts to critical social safety net programs—all to satisfy the most extreme factions of their party.

In the days leading up to the vote, we fought hard to expose what this resolution truly means for working families. We called out the cruel and shortsighted efforts to slash Medicaid, which would strip health coverage from millions, and the attacks on SNAP, which would leave countless families struggling to afford food.

Even some moderate Republicans hesitated, knowing that these cuts would devastate their constituents. But after backroom deals and late-night meetings, GOP leadership managed to strong-arm just enough votes to pass their reckless plan.

Let’s be clear: this budget resolution is not about fiscal responsibility—it’s about pushing a political agenda that puts corporations and the ultra-wealthy ahead of everyday Americans. At a time when so many families are still working to recover from economic hardship, cutting vital programs is not just irresponsible—it’s immoral.

But this fight isn’t over. We will do everything in our power to protect Medicaid, SNAP, and the programs that keep millions of Americans afloat.

And we need you with us which is why I’m asking you to chip in and make sure we’re prepared to take back the House. [[link removed]?]

House Republicans may have won this round, but we’re not backing down. Together, we’ll keep fighting for a budget that reflects our values—one that invests in working families, strengthens our communities, and ensures that no American is left behind.

Thank you for standing with us.
Herb
