Hi John,

As you may have heard, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) faces significant cuts that threaten the communities it is designed to protect and set back our movement’s progress toward affordable homes for all.

So we are taking immediate action, working with national partners to say “Hands Off Housing” with a joint, national letter led by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC). The deadline to sign on is TOMORROW, March 4.

If your organization is unable to take part in this letter, please know that NPH has added our name to represent the collective voice of the affordable housing movement in the Bay Area.

2025 Federal Rapid Response and Resources

NPH is monitoring executive orders and regulations coming from the federal administration for potential impacts to our members and on our communities. Drawing on our network of national partners and legal experts, NPH has developed a curated list of resources and information to support member needs now. This living document intends to serve as an evolving list of relevant actions, messages, and resources collected from our partners as we collectively plan our response to the emerging challenges of the new administration.

As an agency with historically low staffing, HUD struggles to respond to our national affordable housing and homelessness challenges. HUD also holds important responsibilities for disaster recovery that are especially crucial right now. This is why the plan by Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)” is misguided. Reckless HUD staffing cuts mean delays in building affordable housing and addressing homelessness. They set our work back even further by putting vulnerable communities at greater risk of eviction – people of color, seniors, people with disabilities, families with children, veterans, women, and survivors of domestic violence.

We know that NPH members are doing real work in the community every day to build affordable housing. NPH will act strategically to lift our voices in the next four years, without becoming distracted by the Trump Administration’s daily efforts to overwhelm, confuse, and divide us. NPH will never back down and will continue doing all we can to advance the affordable housing that our communities need now.

In Solidarity,
