The U.S. Supreme Court handed Donald Trump his first legal victory of his second term late last week.
Chief Justice John Roberts sided with Trump and paused a lower court order that would have required the administration to release over $1.5 billion in federal funding to organizations that Congress had already approved.
This is a win for Trump’s attempt to consolidate power in the executive branch, supporting his power grab. We can’t say we’re surprised.
As a result, organizations like the AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition are being prevented from carrying out the critical work they do to provide humanitarian assistance to people all over the world.
The good news is this administrative stay decided by Roberts could be temporary — though it’s letting Trump off the hook while the Supreme Court further reviews the case, the Court could ultimately decide he’s in the wrong.
