Hi John,
It’s mega energy affordability week for the Oregon state legislature! This week we’ve got hearings for all three bills in Energy Affordability and Utility Accountability priority. Do you have a moment to help us get these bills passed?
Oregonians have seen their utility bills skyrocket in the past few years, which will only increase as we continue to face the ever-worsening climate impacts. All three of these bills in our Energy Affordability and Accountability package are set on increasing the energy affordability for everyday Oregonians, holding major utility companies accountable, and paving the way for more climate resilient communities. |
Things are kicking off today at 3:00 pm with a hearing on Get the Junk Out of Rates (SB 88), that will cut unnecessary charges from our utility bills, delivering relief to working families and small businesses. Oregon’s largest for-profit utilities have raised customer’s bills by about 50% in four years. SB 88 will get these utility rate hikes under control, by making sure that advertising, legal and lobbyist fees come out of company profits, not ratepayer pockets.
Then tomorrow at 8:00 am there will be a hearing for One Stop Shop 2.0 (HB 3081), that will improve upon our current One Stop Shop. One Stop Shop 2.0 makes it easier for people of all incomes and abilities to stay in their homes and make housing resilient, by offering users live support.
Lastly, the POWER Act (HB 3546) is also scheduled for a hearing on March 6th at 8:00 am. This bill will ensure that utility costs can be tracked and billed appropriately, so that large energy users like data centers are not burdening Oregon households with their grid transmission costs. Oregon families should not have to shoulder the energy costs of these data centers.
Help Oregonians win today by sending your legislators a message in support of these bills! Take action here. |
