Team, I have to tell you — what happened in the Oval Office was a disgrace.
An American president berated one of our allies in public at the White House while the entire world watched. He aligned our country — our people, our military, our strength — with Putin and against President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine.
So, I want to get a few things straight here:
This is a war that Russia started.
Ukraine did not ask for it.
They did not ask to go to war with a nuclear superpower.
They did not ask for their cities to be reduced to rubble.
They did not ask for their children to be displaced and families to be torn apart.
Donald Trump is turning his back on an 80 year alliance that brought unprecedented peace and prosperity to Europe and the United States.
We are the most powerful nation on earth. What we say and do matters, and the signals the president and his administration are sending out right now do not reflect our values.
They do not speak for me.
I, for one, believe that NATO is one of the strongest forces for peace in the world, and it must be upheld. I believe that the people of Ukraine deserve our support, and I am going to continue working towards a just and lasting peace. And I continue to believe that the United States must oppose murderous dictators like Putin, and back democracies like Ukraine and leaders like Zelenskyy.
This shouldn’t be controversial, but that’s not the case today. That makes it more important than ever for us to speak out and defend our values.
That’s what I’m going to do, and I hope you’re with me.
Thanks,
Ruben
