John, What we saw happen last Friday in the Oval Office was shameful. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy represents a nation whose citizens have sacrificed their lives and shed blood for the freedoms they cherish. He deserved respect, not humiliation.
The real danger here is the Trump administration’s disrespect toward Zelenskyy, along with its wavering support for Ukraine, could undermine decades of U.S. leadership and embolden authoritarian regimes worldwide, sending a troubling signal to America’s allies about the country’s commitment to global security.
As experienced, common-sense Republicans go silent on the need to stand with Ukraine, there no longer appears to be a unified understanding of why supporting other democracies is vital to preserving our economic strength, national security, and global leadership.
