Dear John, Happy Women’s History Month! Throughout history, women have built, sustained, and used their power to fight for equity. They have been at the forefront of nearly every progressive movement: from the abolition of slavery, suffragette movement, civil rights, criminal justice reform, and climate justice to fighting for farm workers’ rights, fair wages for domestic workers, and the end of gender and racial violence. Women’s power shapes this country and drives lasting change for all people. This month, we’ll honor this legacy with A History of Power, a campaign exploring the role that women’s power has played in influencing history, and the lessons from movements past that we can apply to our current moment. Each week of March, we’ll focus on these key pillars: - Economic Power: The role of women’s labor and care work, and the fight for equal pay.
- Political Power: How grassroots leaders shape policy and drive systemic change.
- People Power: The strength of movement building, coalition work, and collective action.
- Cultural Power: How art and storytelling influence opinions and amplify movements.
Join us on March 18 for an Instagram Live with our very own Chief of Programs Ellen Liu and Movement Doula & Curator Cristina Aguilar. They will discuss lessons from movements past and present, and how we can care for ourselves during this time in the fight for gender justice. This year, Women’s History Month falls at a particularly difficult time, but we have faced and overcome seemingly insurmountable odds before, and we will do so again – drawing strength from our collective resilience, vision, and unwavering commitment to justice. We look forward to celebrating and continuing to build our collective power with you. |
