Dear John,
Only two months into the 2025 legislative session, state legislators across the nation are introducing bills requiring public school students to watch anti-abortion disinformation. State legislators in Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and West Virginia have introduced legislation inspired by “Baby Olivia,” a video produced by extremist ‘pro-life’ organization Live Action. Eight other states have proposed bills that include similar information without naming the Live Action video. In Arkansas, even would-be supporters of the bill have expressed skepticism about linking it to Live Action, with a co-sponsor of the bill asking, “What if Live Action becomes something that I don’t agree with tomorrow?”
In 2024, Tennessee passed a similar law mandating “Baby Olivia” or a similar video be shown in schools, and at least ten other states introduced comparable legislation. First enacted in 2023 in North Dakota, bills like this mandate anti-abortion propaganda in schools under the guise of teaching young people about fetal development.
We can’t let more of these bills pass. Add your name now to push back against this anti-abortion disinformation.
The claims made in Live Action’s “Baby Olivia” video repeat anti-abortion lies and inflammatory rhetoric debunked by numerous medical professionals. This includes the claim that hiccups begin at seven weeks of gestation, despite trusted medical experts stating that fetal hiccups begin earliest at 23 weeks. Notably, the self-described scientists backing Live Action’s video have ties to anti-abortion groups seeking to ban all abortions, with two working for anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s research arm.
‘Pro-life’ lies have no place in public schools. Sign the petition now if you agree.
National anti-abortion organization Live Action and its work has no place in education. Live Action and its founder and leader Lila Rose have close ties to David Daleiden, the anti-abortion extremist who deceptively edited sting videos and spread inflammatory rhetoric about Planned Parenthood that was repeated by a mass shooter immediately after he killed three people and injured eight more at a Colorado Springs health center.
Framing anti-abortion disinformation as educational material is detrimental to our nation’s youth.
Add your name and make the message clear: Live Action’s anti-abortion propaganda has no place in our public schools.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson
