March 7-9, 2025 is Nonresident Snowmobile Weekend
During this weekend, a nonresident (from another state or province) may operate a snowmobile in Maine (no reciprocity necessary) so long as he/she has a valid registration from another state or province. Trails are expected to have increased traffic, especially in areas near Maine's borders. If you are a nonresident planning to participate in free snowmobile weekend, please click here to register.
More than 95% of Maine's snowmobile trails are on private land. Do your part to help keep our trails safe and open for years to come:
- Stay on marked snowmobile trails (remember ATV trails are not snowmobile trails).
- Drive to the right and at an appropriate speed for your experience and the conditions.
- Never drink and ride.
- Stay alert and be aware of other riders, recreators, and wildlife on the trail.
- Pick up any trash.
- Support a local club.
- Remember that modified exhausts are illegal.
- Respect active logging operations by stopping at every intersection, slowing down, and respecting closed trail signs.
- Follow the rules and ride safe.
And please always respect closed trail signs. Check with the local snowmobile club for up-to-date trail information.
