Once upon a time, it was standard practice for members of Congress to host regular town halls in their districts to meet constituents, answer questions, explain their positions, and yes, occasionally take some heat.

That’s, unfortunately, not so standard anymore. When I defeated Republican Rep. Peter Roskam back in 2018, he hadn’t held a single town hall during any of his SIX terms in Congress.

He was hardly unique in that regard. Many of my right-wing colleagues don’t want to look their hardworking constituents in the eyes and say, “Sure, you’re losing your Medicaid and food assistance, but at least Elon Musk and Donald Trump will pay lower taxes!”

In the first months of the Trump Regime, those fears are being realized. Thousands of furious Americans are showing up to town halls to demand answers from their Republican reps. As Donald Trump’s goons continue their systematic looting of the federal government, that simmering anger will continue to grow.

I learned a long time ago that it’s best to face hard things head-on. That was always my tune in business, and I’m still singing it now.

I’ve had uncomfortable conversations at my town halls here in IL-06. But unlike my MAGA counterparts in Congress, I’m not afraid to look you in the eye and tell you the truth, folks.

Navigating these restless times will require tough conversations. I'm ready for the challenge, but I'm counting on your support to remain an unapologetic voice of reason in Washington. [[link removed]]
