The week after his lackey announced a plan to slash in half the workforce that has made sure Social Security never missed a payment in nearly a century, Elon Musk went on Joe Rogan’s podcast and called Social Security “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”¹

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt warned us about politicians like Musk and Donald Trump all the way back in 1936. In his convention speech, FDR warned:²

Let me warn you and let me warn the Nation against the smooth evasion which says, "Of course we believe all these things; we believe in social security; we believe in work for the unemployed; we believe in saving homes. Cross our hearts and hope to die, we believe in all these things; but we do not like the way the present Administration is doing them. Just turn them over to us. We will do all of them―we will do more of them we will do them better; and, most important of all, the doing of them will not cost anybody anything."

This is hardly the first time Elon Musk has exhibited his utter contempt for Social Security. Immediately after the election, he amplified a twitter thread from Sen. Mike Lee³ who had previously stated his aim for Social Security was to “pull it up by the roots and get rid of it.”⁴

Donald Trump is the politician practiced in ‘smooth evasion.’ His decision to empower Elon Musk to take a wrecking ball to our Social Security system is exactly what FDR warned us about.
