[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I know the IRS is almost nobody’s favorite agency. Very few people love taxes, but most of us understand that it’s core to the social contract of America and a functioning modern democracy.
But it’s important that you know what’s happening with the IRS right now and why it is a huge problem.
Trump has laid off thousands of people at the IRS — 5,000 from collections and enforcement divisions.
This is all part of Trump and Musk’s plan to allow corporations and billionaires to get away with tax fraud.
The people who were laid off were those who went after the thousands of ultra-wealthy people who regularly cheat on their taxes.
Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos both have bragged about years where they’ve paid ZERO in income tax. That’s outrageous.
If you agree, please add your name to say we need a fully funded IRS to force corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump are talking about big game about efficiency, waste, fraud and abuse right now.
But the truth is study after study shows that spending more money on the IRS is one of the best investments our government can make. They can hire people to go after the corporations and ultra-wealth who are not paying their fair share in a way that would meaningfully impact the federal budget and deficit.
This isn’t about going after working people or forcing more audits on the American people. It’s the small 1% of people with armies of fancy accountants who get away with tax fraud because the IRS doesn’t have the resources to investigate and hold them accountable.
This is all part of the same plan to steal your money and give it to corporations and the billionaire class. It doesn’t stop with their $880 billion tax cut for the ultra-wealthy. Whatever taxes left after that Trump’s corporate and billionaire friends are supposed to pay will not be even easier for them to evade — while the rest of us are left to foot the bill.
So please, add your name to mine today to demand that we fully fund the IRS and ensure they have the resources and staff to force corporations and billionaires to pay their fair share.
The two systems of laws and justice in America must end. Being a billionaire doesn’t make you above the law.
Every best wish,
Chris Murphy
