The Trump-Zelensky meeting last week officially marked the end of the United States' use of Ukraine as a proxy for war against Russia. This is welcome news, and, along with other moves by the new Trump administration, signifies a tectonic shift in the world.

At the center of this shift is the fracturing of the US-UK "special relationship." Put in place by the British at the end of World War II, the "special relationship" was the primary method used to continue the British Empire's policy in a new world dominated by their former colony—the US. This has been the cornerstone of today's unipolar world order, and it is collapsing rapidly.

The other tectonic shift taking place is the rise of the Global South and BRICS, which are throwing off the chains of 500 years of colonialism and becoming major actors on the global stage. As Celso Amorim, the special advisor to the Brazilian President, said in an interview last week: "It was Pope Paul VI who said, 'development is the new name for peace.’ The BRICS is the new name for development.”

These changes together indicate the tremendous opening we have to shape a new world policy of peace, sovereignty, and economic development for all—so long as we seize the opportunity to realize it.

At a 2001 conference, Lyndon LaRouche spoke alongside renowned Russian economists Sergey Glazyev and Stanislav Menshikov. He identified Russia's central role in world history as the pivot of the development of the "great inner space" of the Eurasian Continent, which is still of special importance today.

Glazyev, whose book "Genocide: Russia and the New World Order" was translated and published in English in 1999 by LaRouche's Executive Intelligence Review, went on to become an advisor to President Putin on regional economic integration from 2012 to 2019, and is now the Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Professor Menshikov played an important public role historically in promoting Russian-American relations throughout the Cold War and afterwards until his death in 2014. An English version of Menshikov's book "The Anatomy of Russian Capitalism" was also published by EIR in 2007.

Any serious American policy initiative with the current Russian president and his advisors would be sorely remiss without reviewing LaRouche's dialogue with and influence on some of Russia's top thinkers and policy makers over the past decades.
