Discrimination isn’t always visible—but for LGBTQ+ young people, it can impact their mental health, sense of belonging, and overall well-being. Zero Discrimination Day is a powerful reminder that every young person deserves to grow up feeling supported, valued, and free to be themselves.

Our research explores how the environments where LGBTQ+ young people live can influence their mental health and overall experiences. Factors like access to supportive spaces and community acceptance play a role in their daily lives.
Explore Our Findings
Feeling safe and welcomed is essential for mental health. Many LGBTQ+ young people seek out spaces where they can truly be themselves without fear of judgment or rejection.

📍 Transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) young people reported a greater degree of negative impacts (94%; 33% sometimes, 61% a lot), on their mental well-being

📍 2 in 5 LGBTQ+ young people (39%) have considered moving to another state to find a safer and more accepting environment.

📍LGBTQ+ young people who reported living in very accepting communities attempted suicide at less than half the rate of those who reported living in very unaccepting communities.

Support starts with listening, learning, and showing up for LGBTQ+ young people. Whether it’s creating inclusive spaces at school, offering a kind word to someone who needs it, or becoming an informed ally, small actions can make a world of difference.
