Staff at multiple federal agencies have been directed not to speak to Congress.
It seems like the GOP cares less and less about the Constitution these days. Oversight of the executive branch is a vital function of Congress enshrined in our Constitution – and preventing staff from speaking to Congress interferes with this core function.
The president is not a king. Not only is this move unconstitutional, but it also harms Congress’ ability to ensure that the Trump administration is carrying out its Constitutionally-required duties.
While the Trump administration is continuing to be one of the least transparent administrations in American history, our SEEC PAC members are leading the fight in Congress to hold him accountable. SEEC Vice Chair, Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), is taking the Trump administration head on – going straight to the heads of various federal agencies and demanding answers, including the Secretaries of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior and the Administrator of the EPA.
Rep. Pingree is not only defending our democracy, but also holding the Trump administration to account for recent mass firings, including U.S. Forest Service employees who are vital to maintaining the health of our forest systems.
