News from Representative Robert Aderholt

Dear Mr. xxxxxx:

Good Saturday morning here on this first day of March. I wanted to give you an update on all that's been going on in Washington and the Fourth District over the month of February.

Trump/Zelenskyy Meeting

Let me start by talking about the situation we saw yesterday from the Oval Office between President Trump, Vice President Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

I have supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s illegal invasion. However, a serious effort must be made to reach a peace deal, as this three-year-long war cannot continue indefinitely with ongoing casualties and increasing demands on American taxpayers. I was disappointed by President Zelenskyy’s conduct in the Oval Office, which I believe harmed Ukraine’s position in this conflict. President Trump remains open to a deal, and I am hopeful that a resolution can be reached.

House Republican Budget Resolution, Delivering on the Priorities of Alabama’s Fourth District

Image

This past Tuesday I voted in favor of the House Republican budget resolution, a critical first step in advancing President Trump’s America First agenda.

In November, more than 83% of voters in Alabama’s Fourth District cast their ballots for President Trump, making it clear that they wanted a return to strong, conservative leadership. They voted for secure borders, energy independence, economic prosperity, and a strong national defense. This vote Tuesday was the first procedural step toward delivering on those priorities.

Unfortunately, Democrats will misrepresent this vote to spread fear and confusion. The truth is that this budget resolution does not make a single policy change.  It simply sets spending and revenue targets and instructs committees to draft legislation that will meet those targets through the reconciliation process. This is where the real work of shaping policy will happen.

With Republicans in control of the House, Senate, and White House, we have a historic opportunity to undo the damage of the past four years and put America back on the right track. I am proud to stand with my colleagues in support of this resolution, and I will continue to fight for the values and priorities of the people of Alabama’s Fourth District.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)

We have received many calls and emails regarding President Trump's efforts to eliminate wasteful spending in the Executive Branch. I’ve seen some liberal media outlets portray these efforts as if our country is on the verge of a “constitutional crisis.” In my opinion, this is fear mongering and reflects a lack of constitutional knowledge.

The U.S. Constitution clearly establishes that the President is in charge of the Executive Branch. Therefore, he is well within his rights to appoint individuals, such as Elon Musk, to examine how money is spent by the agencies under his jurisdiction.

There is considerable resistance from those who want to maintain the status quo and avoid spending cuts. This resistance is a major reason why our debt—especially due to mandatory spending—continues to grow. The U.S. federal debt is now at $36 trillion and climbing. Those opposed to these cuts would have us continue spending until we drive our nation off the proverbial fiscal cliff.

Standing Up for Immigration Reform: Ending Birthright Citizenship

Image

This month, I co-sponsored legislation to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. Our nation’s immigration system is broken, and this bill is a necessary step toward fixing it.  Birthright citizenship should be reserved for those born to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents—those who have followed the proper legal process.

For too long, our laws have been exploited, creating incentives for illegal immigration and putting a strain on our resources. This legislation will help restore fairness and accountability to our immigration system. I am committed to ensuring that the rights and privileges of U.S. citizenship are upheld and protected for those who have earned them.

Law Enforcement Summit in Northport

Image

I had the privilege of hosting a Law Enforcement Summit in Northport, bringing together members of our local law enforcement community from across the Fourth District and connecting them with their state and federal counterparts. The summit had a significant focus on illegal immigration and its impact on our local police and sheriff departments. Agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) participated.

In addition to illegal immigration, the summit also focused on drug trafficking, cyber crimes, and funding for law enforcement. I remain committed to making sure the men and women in blue have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep our local communities safe from violent crime and the criminals who commit them.

Bill Requiring American-Made Flags

Image

I proudly cosponsored legislation introduced by Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) mandating that all United States flags purchased by the federal government be entirely manufactured in the United States from domestic materials. This initiative ensures that our nation's emblem reflects American values, history, and the sacrifices of those who have defended our freedoms. By requiring federal agencies to procure 100% American-made flags, we support domestic businesses and workers, reinforcing our commitment to American manufacturing.

This legislation has garnered bipartisan support and is currently under review in the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. I remain dedicated to policies that prioritize American industry and uphold the integrity of our national symbols.
