Congressman Crenshaw here,

This week, I continued to speak out against proxy voting, which allows Members of Congress to work from home and abandon their duty to lead from the front during this pandemic. I also joined Houston Public Media for an hour-long interview and took questions from the public about the coronavirus, and released another video in my "Crenshaw's Classroom" educational series.

As a reminder to Texans in the Second District, I have established a resource page on my website to keep our community updated on the latest developments. The page provides tips from the CDC on how to stay healthy, additional resources for more information about coronavirus, and updates on the federal response to this situation. Please visit crenshaw.house.gov/coronavirus-resources for more information.

Please reach out to my offices if you have a concern, want to hear what we’re working on in Congress, or are having trouble with a federal agency. I have a full team in Texas and in the nation's capital ready to assist you. Be sure to stay up to date by following me on TwitterFacebook, and YouTube. For a behind-the-scenes look, follow my staff's official Instagram account.

Now, let's catch up.
congress should be leading, not voting by proxy

Proxy voting is nothing more than pure cowardice. More than 70 Democrats abandoned their duty to represent their constituents in Congress with their vote, and handed that responsibility over to another Member of Congress this week. Not only does this upend more than 200 years of precedent and violate the Constitution, it demonstrates a total lack of leadership when our country is in crisis.

Our essential workers don’t have proxies to fulfill their duties. Neither should Members of Congress. Some Democrats think it's too dangerous to come to Washington, D.C. to vote, so I gave people a behind-the-scenes look at how "dangerous" voting really is. CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE TO WATCH

houston public media coronavirus roundtable

This week, I joined Houston Public Media for an hour-long roundtable conversation focused on the reopening strategy in Texas. I have been strongly advocating for smart reopening strategies across the country, just like we are implementing in our state.

During the discussion, I spoke about why I believe that economic lockdowns lasted far longer than they should have, and caused serious damage to livelihoods as millions of Americans lost their jobs. I was joined by Professor John Diamond, an economist at Rice University, and Dr. Reynolds Delgado, a cardiologist at the Texas Heart Institute to provide their expertise and insight on the broader impacts of COVID-19 on the economy and our health care system.

The story of the storm that saved the capitol
This week, I released the third video in my educational series - "Crenshaw's Classroom." You can watch the first video here and the second video here.

In the third video released this week, I take you back to the summer of 1814. While British soldiers were in the middle of their mission to destroy Washington, D.C. and historic buildings like the Capitol, a brutal storm hit the city. The storm was complete with a tornado and hail, and should have devastated our capital. But this story has a surprising ending. Click here or on the image above to watch.
