DEFENDING CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AT ALOHA FREEDOM COALITION RALLY
|
|
|
Representative Garcia was honored with the opportunity to speak at the Aloha Freedom Coalition Rally at the Hawaii State Capitol. This rally focused on unifying the community and educating the public on our rights (which are under attack) guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. The Aloha Freedom Coalition advocates for transparency, informed decision-making, and the protection of constitutional rights for Hawaii residents.

Agriculture Day at the Capitol was sponsored by the Hawaii Farm Bureau, and was co-hosted by Representatives Kristin Kahaloa and Matthias Kusch, and Senators Mike Gabbard and Tim Richards. This annual event brings awareness to Hawaii’s diverse agriculture industry. The event featured educational displays, product samples, and more. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION MEETING

Representative Matsumoto met with the Department of Education (DOE) Facilities team to discuss ongoing projects and future improvements for our schools. Ensuring safe, well-maintained learning environments is essential for student success. She is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate on solutions.

ALOHA FREEDOM COALITION STANDS AGAINST HB1118
|
|
|
Representative Shimizu spoke against HB1118 at the Aloha Freedom Coalition’s rally at the Capitol on Thursday, February 20. He was joined by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter (pictured) at the event. Founded in 2020, the Aloha Freedom Coalition advocates for the personal freedoms of all communities in Hawaii, promotes transformation and transparency of government, and supports the constitutional rights of the People.
Additionally, during the Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs (JHA) Committee hearing on February 21, Representative Shimizu and Representative Garcia both voted in opposition to HB1118.

HEART ASSOCIATION RED DAY

Representative Matsumoto and Representative Garcia joined fellow legislators in recognizing National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for heart disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S. Together, they stand in support of prevention, education, and heart health advocacy.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN HAWAI‘I’S LIBRARIES

Representative Julie Reyes Oda attended the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i Annual Membership Meeting on February 19, 2025, at the Hawai‘i State Library. The event honored outstanding contributions with the Legislator of the Year Mahalo Award, as well as the Librarian of the Year and Excellence in Service Awards. She is pictured with Senator Lynn DeCoite, recipient of the Legislator of the Year Mahalo Award.

MILILANI COMPLEX CHARACTER COUNTS FAIR

Representative Matsumoto had a fantastic time with the keiki at the Mililani Complex Schools Character Counts Fair! This year's theme, "Citizenship," provided a meaningful opportunity to teach students about the values of being engaged and responsible members of the community. WAIANAE FOOTBALL FIELD BLESSING

Representative Muraoka had the honor of attending the blessing of the new Waianae High School football field and track, a long-awaited project now complete. As a football coach, this is truly a blessing for Waianae, and as an alumnus, it’s amazing to see the school with such a beautiful new field. Waianae has always had the best football stadium in Hawaii, but now, this field is a true gem!

TOUR OF "THE PANTRY" HIGHLIGHTS HAWAII'S FIGHT AGAINST FOOD INSECURITY

Representative Garcia was honored to be invited by Pastor Rich Webb to tour “The Pantry”, Hawaii’s only e-commerce food pantry that operates weekly, year-round, to provide free, nutritious food to Hawaii's families.
For over 20 years, The Pantry has served Oahu’s community with dignity through a unique “grocery store-style” experience—allowing customers to select the food they need, when they need it, reducing food waste while addressing food insecurity.
During the visit, Representative Garcia gained a deeper understanding of The Pantry’s innovative approach to providing healthy, quality food at no cost to those in need. With Hawaii facing rising food insecurity, The Pantry plays a critical role in helping local families put meals on the table while promoting sustainability and empowering the community.

As a Moanalua High School alumni, Representative Shimizu was honored to have attended Moanalua High School’s 19th Annual Kinaʻole Awards Banquet. HAWAI‘I’S BRIGHTEST COMPETE IN 2025 LIFESMARTS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

On February 21, 2025, Kalani, ‘Iolani, and Waipahu High Schools competed at the Hawai‘i LifeSmarts State Competition at the Neal Blaisdell Center, testing their consumer knowledge and life skills for a chance to advance to the National Competition in Chicago. Representative Julie Reyes Oda, a former public school teacher, attended in support of Hawai‘i’s future leaders and was photographed with Dean Hazama, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA); Waipahu High School teacher and students; and teachers from ‘Iolani and Kalani High Schools. Hosted by DCCA and local sponsors, the event equipped students with real-world education for lifelong success.

CONNECTING WITH THE NEXT GENERATION: VISITING TO WAIANAE INTERMEDIATE

Representative Muraoka had the opportunity to meet with students at Waianae Intermediate to discuss his role and how he plans to support the Waianae community. Honored to support the next generation of agricultural leaders, Representative Matsumoto served as a judge at the Hawaii State Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention. Aspiring future farmers showcased their dedication and skills in a series of Career Development Events, demonstrating the importance of agriculture in our communities. Better Together Hawaii’s monthly Citizen’s Patrol unites Mililani residents and the Honolulu Police Department to promote safety and community support amidst rising concerns about crime and well-being. Last week, Representative Matsumoto joined the patrol and was inspired to see neighbors coming together to enhance safety and support one another.
