Hi friends, it’s Michael.
Whether it was as a Superintendent or a U.S. Senator, throughout my career I’ve always been guided by what I believe are four essential freedoms every American is entitled to.
The freedom to rise, which we can achieve by prioritizing working families, fighting childhood poverty, and building an economy that works for everyone, not just folks at the top.
The freedom to learn, through investing in our public schools, our educators, and our students – not banning books or dismantling the Department of Education.
The freedom from violence, by passing common-sense gun safety laws, fighting the opioid epidemic, and ending the extremism that flourishes on social media.
T he freedom to govern ourselves, which we can realize by reforming our electoral system so our voices – not dark money – have the most power, while keeping the government out of our doctor's office and our bedrooms.
I know that achieving these freedoms to their fullest extent seems far-fetched right now. But no matter how long the odds may feel, they will always be worth fighting for.
