Dear Friends, It’s not our usual newsletter night, but I couldn’t let this go. Two weeks ago on CNN, I called Donald Trump a Russian asset—and I stand by that. Trump’s words and actions make it clear he’s been working for Vladimir Putin the whole time. If you needed any more proof, just look at what happened today. Trump and J.D. Vance showed the world exactly whose side they’re on. Instead of standing with Ukraine, they bullied, lectured, and attempted to intimidate Volodymyr Zelensky, who’s been valiantly fighting for his country’s survival against a Russian invasion for three years. It was sickening. But it isn’t new. Trump has been backing Putin for years. Nine years ago, his campaign colluded with Russia in meddling with our election. Seven years ago, Trump sided with Putin in Helsinki, trashing our intelligence community. Six years ago, he got impeached for trying to blackmail Zelensky. Now we’re watching Trump and Vance humiliate him on the global stage. It’s cowardly, infuriating, and dangerous. Imagine if it were Putin, the man behind that invasion, visiting the White House today. Trump and Vance would be falling all over themselves, pathetically praising him. That’s how deep their loyalty to Putin goes. Here’s the harsh reality for Ukraine, Europe, and the rest of the free world: as long as Trump and Vance are in power, America is not with you. America is with Putin. Trump and Vance are working for him. There are plenty of smiles in the Kremlin today. This newsletter is called the Social Contract. Trump is the antithesis of that. He is what happens when the social contract is utterly broken. And this is what America looks like when the absolute worst of us is in the White House. It is shameful. But make no mistake—America has no king, and we’re not going to let Trump rewrite what this country stands for. They won’t get to destroy freedom and democracy in our name for long. We will overcome this disgraceful chapter in our history and become the shining city on the hill again someday. Slava Ukraini!
