I’m Joe Kerr, a second-generation firefighter and labor leader. For three decades, I’ve run headfirst toward the problem—whether inside burning buildings or in the halls of the State Assembly, I’ve always fought for common-sense solutions to save lives.

In firefighting, when we pull up on a scene of a house on fire, we don’t ask who they voted for—we just put out the fire. As a fire captain and labor leader, I worked with both parties to protect rights and save lives. It’s common sense.

So, when I see Trump’s White House merely suggest seeking retribution for his political rivals instead of getting to work on the things he was elected to do, like lowering the costs of groceries and healthcare, I can’t sit back and let the fire spread.
