Take Action: WE ACT Albany Advocacy Day
Now you have two reasons to come up to Albany with us on March 4th:
Are you concerned about the toxic chemicals commonly found in cosmetics and other personal care products? Did you know that many of the most toxic products are aggressively marketed toward people of color? Then travel with us to Albany on Tuesday, March 4th to lobby for the New York State Beauty Justice Act.
Are you concerned about energy affordability? Do you want to help New York State to transition to clean, renewable energy? Then travel with us to Albany on Tuesday, March 4th to lobby for the NY HEAT Act. Note: We will also be having an Albany Advocacy Day for the NY HEAT Act on Wednesday, March 19th.

We will have a virtual prep meeting beforehand (6:00 PM on Monday, March 3rd) and then meet at WE ACT’s office (on the Second Floor of 1854 Amsterdam Avenue, which is at the corner of 152nd Street) at 6:30 AM on Tuesday, March 4th. We will have bagels and coffee before boarding the bus to Albany (where lunch will be provided) for the day, returning to our office around 6:30 PM. RSVP Today

Webinar: Advocacy Tools to Fight Pollution and Protect Community Health
While the new administration has paralyzed federal environmental action, local advocacy has become more important than ever. Join us and our friends at Columbia University’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law on Wednesday, March 5th from 12:30-1:30 PM as we present new tools and insight to help community advocates navigate complex bureaucratic, political, and legal arenas to fight fossil fuel infrastructure and develop protective community benefit agreements. Leslie Fields will provide opening remarks and Yosef Robele will moderate the panel discussion between Sabin Center Founder & Faculty Director Michael Gerrard and Sabin Center Climate Justice Fellow Olivia Guarna. This is an extension of our Dismantling Injustice collaboration, which provided tools and insight to pursue state-level cumulative impacts legislation. RSVP

Congressional Briefing: Standing Strong for Environmental Justice
We hosted a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill this week to educate and engage members of Congress and their staff on environmental justice and the federal policies we are pursuing on behalf of the communities in Northern Manhattan. Peggy Shepard moderated a fireside chat with WE ACT Co-Founder & Metropolitan Group EVP Vernice Miller-Travis, U.S. Representative Summer Lee (PA-12), Climate Justice Alliance Legislative Director Marilyn Zepeda Salazar, and Empower DC Executive Director Parisa Norouzi. U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (CA-2) and U.S. Representative Maxine Dexter M.D. (OR-3) also spoke at the event, and U.S. Representative Rashia Tlaib (MI-12) joined us for the reception.

Cameron Clarke Discussing Community and Public Health Partnerships
Cameron Clarke will be speaking on a Community and Public Health Partnerships panel at 2:20 PM on Friday, March 14th as part of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai’s Clinical Climate Conference. The panel will be moderated by Professor of Environmental Medicine and Pediatrics (and long-time WE ACT Member) Perry Sheffield, MD, MPH, and Cameron will be joined by fellow panelists East Harlem Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) Co-Founder, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Associate Professor of Medical Education Ann-Gel S. Palermo, DrPH and COAD Co-Founder and Disaster Liaison for the East Carol Johnson. Well-Earned Recognition for Marileidy Pimentel Paniagua
Marileidy Pimentel Paniagua received a proclamation from the New York State Assembly for her work on behalf of our community. She was among the honorees at Assembly Member Manny De Los Santos' Dominican Independence Day breakfast last Saturday. U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat, who is also the Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, were on-hand to congratulate the recipients.
