Email from Rep. Van Duyne We need to level the playing field and combat China's anti-free market practices   Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, I enjoyed meeting with our Youth Advisory Council in Grapevine. These student leaders have been working hard to learn and grow while respectfully debating public policy issues, and I was impressed by their thoughtful questions about federal legislation and global policy debates. Monday, I had the opportunity to join a Women in Energy Tax roundtable discussion. I was able to share my work to expand domestic oil and gas production to lower costs for working families and hear about the latest trends in our energy sector. In the evening, I voted to pass five pieces of bipartisan legislation that will uplift our job creators and grow the economy. These bills will empower America’s small business owners, hold fraudsters accountable for financial crimes related to COVID-era small business loans, increase the ability for small businesses to compete in the industrial base, authorize banks to increase investments in small businesses, and improve access to capital for veteran small business owners. Tuesday morning, I joined my colleagues for a Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee hearing on American trade enforcement policies. As we’ve seen, foreign competitors – especially China – are exploiting trade laws, stealing intellectual property, and undercutting American industries. You can click here on the image below to watch my line of questioning focused on fair trade and my new legislation to counter China, which you can read about in my Work of the Week section below. Later, I met with North Texas members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. We discussed my efforts to support our ally Israel as they face an existential threat from Hamas terrorists and other Iranian proxies. That afternoon, I spoke with Blake Barfield, a North Texan who works for Dallas-based Atmos Energy. I’m working to ensure our energy is abundant, affordable, and reliable, and I appreciated hearing about the company’s role in managing one of the largest intrastate natural gas pipeline systems in Texas. Tuesday evening, I voted for a budget framework that unlocks cuts in wasteful spending and allows us to extend President Trump’s tax cuts for working families, secure the border, and fight inflation. I will continue to work to make strategic reductions in spending, identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse, provide much-needed relief for our families and job creators, and ensure our tax dollars are used responsibly and efficiently. On Wednesday, my Ways and Means Committee colleagues and I voted to advance legislation to support taxpayers impacted by natural disasters and repeal a harmful cryptocurrency rule imposed by Biden. I also met with employees of Southlake-based Sabre, which is the largest global distribution systems provider for travel bookings, to talk about artificial intelligence, privacy, and digital regulations. Our submarine force is an important part of our national security, giving us the stealth needed to carry out strikes and intelligence missions. This week, I spoke with Texas-based small businesses that provide materials for U.S. submarine forces and heard about the latest innovations that will strengthen our Naval readiness and help us respond to emerging global threats. Later in the week, I met North Texas community bankers about the significant challenges facing the industry. From repealing burdensome regulations that treat local community banks like global financial giants, to getting rid of the unaccountable “Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,” there is much work to be done to ensure these small banks can continue supporting our community. I’m pleased to share that we unanimously passed the bipartisan Medal of Honor Act to support our heroes by increasing the monthly pension for our nation’s 63 living Medal of Honor recipients. It was great to join my colleagues in the Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus for a press conference to share our efforts to cut waste, fraud, and abuse. You can click here or on the image below to watch my remarks. I also voted to pass legislation to overturn President Biden’s methane tax which would drive up costs for working families and cripple our energy industry. This bill quickly passed the Senate, and will be signed into law by President Trump soon! Yesterday, I helped introduce bipartisan legislation to allow hospice providers to use telehealth to continue offering critical care, increasing flexibility for patients and providers. It was great to chat with Irving resident Brianna Wadley, a grassroots leader for the American Conservation Coalition, about how conservatives are leading the charge to achieve an energy-dominant America! I also voted to protect consumer choice by repealing President Biden’s attack on home appliances, including gas water heaters, as well as other natural gas appliances. Later, I teamed up with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to introduce the MINI Act, which makes some common-sense adjustments to correct harmful regulations that stifle innovation from genetically targeted drug treatments. Finally, I hosted an episode of the Republican Study Committee’s new podcast with guests Congresswoman Harriet Hageman of Wyoming and Congressman Pat Fallon of Texas. We had a great conversation about getting our nation’s finances on track, securing the border, expanding energy, and more. Keep an eye out for the episode next week! Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to combat China’s anti-free market practices and level the playing field for American workers. My bill will help build a stronger, more resilient, and more self-sufficient America, strengthening our skilled trades, expanding the middle class, and ensuring that the U.S. can compete on the global stage. Texas-24 Hometown Hero Our Texas-24 Hometown Hero is retired Senior Corporal Bill Norwood of the Euless Police Department, who dedicated over 30 years to protecting North Texas and our country. On behalf of a grateful community, I’d like to express my deep gratitude for his service. Congressional Internship Program Have you ever wanted to serve your community in a Congressional office?
