The Sea Shepherd community is coming together to honor the memory of Henry Shehan, whose dedication and passion for marine conservation have inspired many. Henry’s life was a testament to his love for the ocean, and now, his family is channeling that same commitment through a special matching memorial fundraiser aimed at supporting Sea Shepherd’s ongoing efforts to protect marine wildlife and habitats.
A Deep Love for the Ocean
Henry’s connection to the ocean was strong despite growing up in Colorado. Whether sailing in the Caribbean, or boating off the shores of Martha’s Vineyard or Sanibel, Henry had an appreciation and understanding of the fragility of the ocean ecosystems. Ever since reading Peter Heller’s Whale Warriors, he dreamed of working for Sea Shepherd. He constantly watched videos and documentaries about Sea Shepherd’s ongoing initiatives around the world. Battling health issues all his life, he was a true warrior himself. Always concerned for others, he never questioned his circumstances. His journey was one defined by the belief that every action counts when it comes to defending the ocean.

Continuing Henry’s Mission
In celebration of his legacy, Henry’s family has launched a $100k matching fundraiser on JustGiving. This memorial campaign is an opportunity for supporters to double their contribution and join together in a cause that was so important to him. Funds raised through this initiative will go directly to Sea Shepherd’s crucial campaigns, from intercepting illegal fishing operations to conducting net removal missions that save countless marine animals from entanglement and harm.
“Henry was a fighter all his life, and believed deeply in Sea Shepherd’s mission, especially when it came to defending wildlife ” says his father, Mike Shehan. “We hope that this campaign in Henry’s name inspires others to take action in protecting our oceans.”
