Legislative Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Week three of the House Republican Majority is officially in the books, and things are moving full speed ahead! My colleagues on the other side of the aisle have now been here for a couple of weeks, and together, we’re introducing bills, holding committee hearings, and—most importantly—getting things done. After four years in the legislature, I’m seeing more bipartisan cooperation than ever before. Both Republicans and Democrats recognize that we need 68 votes to pass anything, which means we have to work together—and that’s exactly what’s happening.

I’ve had many Democratic colleagues cross the aisle to ask us to sign onto bills that truly serve Minnesotans, and we’ve been doing the same. When legislation is good for Minnesota and good for our districts, it’s about working together, not playing politics. Whether it’s education, transportation, healthcare, or other key issues, we are finding common ground to pass meaningful reforms.

Key Legislative Wins So Far

One of the most important bills making progress is protecting fairness in women’s sports. It’s common sense—only women should compete in women’s sports. This legislation has moved through committee and is expected to hit the House floor early next week. The reality is that over 87% of Americans agree that men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports. It’s unfortunate that we even need a bill for something so fundamental, but we’re standing up to protect opportunities for female athletes.

Another crucial bill moving forward ensures that only women are housed in female prisons. No male inmates should be able to simply identify as women and be transferred into female facilities. This, again, is basic common sense, and I’m proud to support legislation that keeps women safe in correctional settings.

Cracking Down on Waste, Fraud, and Abuse

The work being done to expose and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in state agencies is nothing short of incredible. The numbers are staggering—over $600 million in fraud has been uncovered in the last four years, including scandals like CCAP and Feeding Our Future. Thanks to strong leadership in committee, we are shining a light on these issues and pushing forward real reforms to stop taxpayer money from being wasted.

Looking Ahead

While lawmaking isn’t perfect and at times a little messy, we’re on the right track! We’re working toward fiscally responsible policies, commonsense legislation, and a balanced budget. Our goal is to wrap up session by May 20th, which is the constitutional deadline, and I’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

It’s an honor to represent Wright County and District 29A, and I’m proud to be fighting for Minnesota values every day. Stay tuned for more updates—there’s plenty of great work ahead!
