Hey EnviroVoter, This has been an overwhelming week to say the least, with a barrage of executive orders and bad news from the Trump Administration. It's hard to keep up with it all. That's why we've put together the EnviroVoters weekly roundup—to keep you informed as an environmental advocate, remind you that this is a winnable fight, and share things you can do right now to help. Want more updates as they come?

Something to Celebrate: For months, we've been coordinating community efforts to stand up for climate progress at the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). EnviroVoters (like you!) have attended board meetings, submitted public comments, and called for action. And it's working.
This week, we helped defeat a resolution that was proposed to Santa Ana City Council that would have gone against Building Electrification rules at the SCAQMD. On top of community action, our team worked directly with City Councilmember Jessie Lopez and the SoCal Building Electrification coalition to stop this resolution in its tracks.
This is a huge success, and it'll move progress forward by speeding up the transition of households to zero-emission appliances, lowering energy bills and protecting our communities from harmful air pollution. |

Something You Can Do: This week, a group of park service workers hung an upside-down American flag—a symbol of distress—off the side of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in protest against the mass layoffs and sell-off of public lands perpetrated by the Trump Administration.
These layoffs are destroying institutions, and it's a calculated scam: the federal government is trying to make services inaccessible, make our land and water dirty, and make the public lose interest in national parks. Once that happens, they'll sell the land off to corporate polluters for drilling, destroying these preserved spaces forever.
Writer and historian Wallace Stegner called our national parks "the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst."
California has over 20 million acres of protected lands that are being threatened by this, including national parks Yosemite, Death Valley, and Joshua Tree—just to name a few.
Join national park employees and fellow EnviroVoters in calling for public lands to stay off-limits to private interests by filling out a two-minute form to email your representative. |
Something For You:
Tomorrow is the beginning of Women's History Month, and Sunday is National Read Across America Day. If you're still looking for a book to read, our staff has you covered with some amazing climate-centered books by women authors!
"Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler Recommended by ReJeana Goldsborough, our Senior Events Manager:
"Parable of the Sower is a heavy read, but it's one of the most realistic and profound apocalypse science fiction stories of all time—and it feels more relevant now than ever."
"The World is Blue" by Sylvia A. Earle Recommended by Ainslie Faust, our Senior Administrative Assistant: "The World is Blue opened my eyes to how connected humanity's future is to the oceans."
Thanks, Team EnviroVoters
