Dear Members and Associates,
Covid-19 has turned life upside down, the economy is in shambles, and now George Floyd is dead. As parts of Minneapolis burn, things can feel overwhelming. It is good to shut off Facebook for a while, put away the phone, and find some way to support each other while we fight to make a difference (safely).
Tomorrow, Saturday, at 1:30 pm there is a protest against the police killing of George Floyd. It starts in West Duluth at 57th and Grand, and then moves to the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial at 3:30 pm. I encourage everyone in good health to attend, but bring a mask and practice proper social distancing.
On Monday the 1st, 11:30 am there is a demonstration picket in support of Essentia workers up by the JC Penny building at the Miller Hill Mall. It is hosted by United Steelworkers Local 9460. In addition to the picket, there will be a caravan. Signs are provided. Labor union support is one of DSA's priorities. Again, social distancing with masks will be practiced.
I plan to be at both.
Additionally, if you are looking for a way to support organizations in the Twin Cities working on police issues or helping with the protests, here are some suggested ways forwarded to me by a trusted Twin Cities DSA member.
In Solidarity
