February is National Children's Dental Health Month
Every child in every one of our early childhood education classrooms learns valuable skills which they will carry with them to Kindergarten and beyond. One of these skills is something we all do everyday without thinking – brushing our teeth. Brushing teeth is important to not only ensure fresh breath and overall wellness, but children with good oral health are less likely to have oral pain, miss school, and often perform better than their peers with poor oral health according to the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center <[link removed]>.
The children brush their teeth every day and we replace toothbrushes every three months, sometimes sooner as little hands sometimes drop thems on the floor. Help celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month by donating children’s toothbrushes. Check out our convenient wishlist <[link removed]>, order some toothbrushes that will ship directly to us, and know you're not just helping our little neighbors keep their teeth clean today, but building the foundation for a lifetime of well-being!

Update: $ 21,200 Donated from Burke and Herbert Bank Goals for Good!
A huge thank you to Burke & Herbert Bank’s Goals for Good <[link removed]> campaign which gives us one more reason to cheer on the Washington Capitals! Every goal scored by the Caps means a $ 100 donation to NVFS, supporting health, stability, and economic well-being for more than 40,000 individuals across Northern Virginia. This season, more than $ 21,200 <[link removed]> has been raised to help families thrive—proving that teamwork truly makes the dream work!
Let’s Go Caps and score those goals to help NVFS to continue doing good!

Thank You, Clark Construction and Clark Technologies for Your Annual Service Week Volunteering!
Hats off to Clark Construction and Clark Technologies volunteers for providing tremendous support to NVFS during their annual service week.
Volunteers packed and delivered 500 winter weather kits, which were some of the best quality winter kits we’ve ever received. They included a blanket, beanie, gloves, thermal socks, poncho, lip balm, and hand sanitizer. Within one day, NVFS’ Community In Reach had already distributed 100 kits at a local community event. It was perfect timing for the cold weather and the remaining kits will quickly get into the hands of those who need them.
A team of 10 volunteers from the Clark Technologies also braved a 20-degree cold day at the NVFS SERVE to complete some vital but laborious projects:
* Hauled away unusable ice melt for environmentally sound disposal
* Broke apart rickety wooden picnic tables and hauled away the wood
* Removed holiday lights and packed them up to store until the next holiday season
* Brought heavy boxes of old files out of the attic and prepared them for shredding
* Replaced two dozen air filters
This year, and every year, Clark Construction and Clark Technologies’s productive and efficient group of volunteers step up to help the Northern Virginia community. Thank you!
If you're inspired to make a positive impact in our community, check out our Get Involved <[link removed]> page.

Did You Know? Fun Facts About NVFS' 100-year Journey
In the 1950s NVFS added case management services for NVFS clients. Today, our case managers help to assess client needs and understand their situations better. Through their personal connections to the client, they are able to help develop tailored care plans that outline steps for improvement. Case managers can connect clients with vital resources like counseling, housing, or healthcare. They advocate for client’s rights and needs, and evaluate progress.
The addition of case management services was a major step towards NVFS’ holistic service model which provides wrap-around services to our clients. Today, much of the case management is handled by NVFS Licensed Clinical Social Workers <[link removed]> (LCSWs). These professionals are at the forefront of addressing many challenges individuals, families, and groups face, aiming to enhance well-being and quality of life.

Kids Learn the Importance of Excercise from GMU Women's Volleyball Team
Thank you to the George Mason University Women’s Volleyball team for giving back to the community! On Friday, February 21st, fifteen college athletes kicked off the early childhood education center learning unit on exercise. They did a volleyball show and tell and made fitness fun leading activities such as Simon Says and Animal Exercise. Our littlest learners used their imagination to unleash their inner animal and improve strength, flexibility, and mobility by jumping like a frog, roaring like a lion, and more! Thank you, Patriots!
