1. Responding: Eastern U.S. Flooding
Although the deadly floods across Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee are no longer in the news, these states are still recovering from previous catastrophic events, including flooding caused by Hurricane Helene last year and floods in 2022 in Kentucky. Many of the affected areas are among the poorest counties in the United States. Americares has contacted over 26 local partners, and we are responding to requests for hygiene items and water.

1. Providing Cash Assistance After the California Wildfires
For many survivors of the California wildfires, recovery is only just beginning. To help survivors meet their most urgent needs, we’ve provided emergency cash assistance to partner clinics in California for low-income wildfire survivors who have been greatly impacted by this devastating crisis. For many, this support is more than financial relief. It’s a lifeline.

1. Our work in Ukraine
Three years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Americares remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of those affected by the war. Our work focuses on providing medicine, medical and relief supplies, mental health support and capacity-building initiatives for local organizations in Ukraine. To date, Americares has provided aid valued at more than $147 million to 83 local partners, ensuring that critical health services continue amid ongoing conflict.

1. Americares India: Improving Health in Mumbai’s Slums
Every two weeks, hope arrives on wheels in 130 of Mumbai’s slum communities when Americares Mobile Health Centers deliver quality health care. Regular, comprehensive care is essential anywhere, but it is especially important in Mumbai’s slums, home to half the city’s residents and where chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease account for as many as 64% of deaths.
Americares Urban Health Strategy is seeking to change that grim statistic by helping people access quality health services. Americares Mobile Health Centers have been serving Mumbai’s slum communities since 2011. With support from Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST), Americares launched its Urban Health Strategy in 2020.
