Dear John,

This week, we welcomed the 35th state to the State Future Caucus Network: South Carolina!

While today's political system is often defined by division, young lawmakers in South Carolina are proving there's a better path forward and committing themselves to a more effective way of governing.

Representative Brandon Newton (R) and Senator Deon Tedder (D) will serve as the inaugural co-chairs for the South Carolina Future Caucus.

They became friends while serving as majority whip and minority whip, respectively, in the state legislature and were inspired to start a Future Caucus chapter in South Carolina after attending last year's Future Summit.

During their press conference, the lawmakers shared their passion for working together and laid out their plans for the caucus - with a priority of only pushing bills agreed to by a majority of members in both parties to not "lose the spirit" of bipartisanship.

On the House floor, Rep. Newton announced the caucus to the delegation, encouraging his fellow young lawmakers to join — we were proudly watching from the Gallery!

It's not everyday a new Future Caucus chapter is launched, so to celebrate, young lawmakers from both parties and chambers joined together for a happy hour reception to toast to the South Carolina Future Caucus!

It's because of young leaders like Sen. Tedder and Rep. Newton, who challenge the status quo, that we say, "our best days are ahead!"

What state will join the network next? 🤔

Onwards,

Future Caucus
