Should the Government Be Forced to Disclose Its Budget Failures?
Dear Fellow Iowan,
Washington has a spending problem. Time and time again, we see government projects go billions over budget and years behind schedule—with no accountability. That’s why I’ve introduced the Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act with Senator Joni Ernst. Our bill would require public disclosure of taxpayer-funded projects that are at least $1 billion over budget or five years behind schedule.
Consider these examples:
- A California rail project costing $1.8 million per day—yet no tracks have been laid.
- $10 billion for new Postal Service delivery vehicles—with fewer than 100 delivered in three years.
- A NASA moon project that is $6 billion over budget and delayed due to mismanagement.
Iowans work too hard to see their tax dollars wasted on government incompetence. I believe it’s time to hold Washington accountable—but I want to hear from you.
Do you think the government should be required to report on its wasteful spending?
I’ll keep fighting to cut waste, protect your tax dollars, and demand transparency in Washington. Thank you for staying engaged—I appreciate your input.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
