Legislative Update
1
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We’re rolling into week three of the House Republican Majority, and let me tell you—it’s been a whirlwind! The Capitol is buzzing with activity, and every day brings a new challenge, a new opportunity, and occasionally, a much-needed cup of coffee (or three).
I’m excited to share some highlights from this week because the work we’re doing here matters! I’m committed to fighting for you, your families, and our great state—even when the debates get long, the bills get complicated, and my inbox starts looking a little overwhelming.
But one of the best perks of this job? The amazing view I get as I leave work each night. Just take a look at this photo I snapped on Wednesday—Minnesota, you sure know how to put on a show! I feel incredibly lucky to represent such an amazing state and its wonderful people.
Now, let’s dive into the latest from the Capitol!

Honoring a Legacy of Amazing Leadership
1
You know that feeling when you reconnect with someone you’ve always admired… and they somehow manage to exceed even your highest expectations? That’s exactly how I felt this past weekend, when I had the absolute privilege of catching up with Former District 1B Representative Deb Kiel, a woman whose heart for this district and unwavering dedication set the gold standard for public service.
From fighting for common-sense policies to ensuring our communities didn’t just get by but truly thrived, her impact isn’t just a memory—it’s a foundation we continue to build upon.
Standing beside her, I was reminded that public service isn’t about titles or politics; it’s about the people we serve and the trust they place in us. It’s an honor to follow in her footsteps, and while those are certainly big shoes to fill, with her legacy lighting the way, I’m more than ready to walk the path she paved!

Big Conversations & Bigger Solutions!
1
This week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the Association of Minnesota Counties from Polk and Clay Counties. Let me tell you—when you get a group of county leaders in a room, you don’t just talk policy, you talk solutions. These are the people who keep our communities running smoothly, and their insights are worth their weight in gold (or at least in pothole-free roads and well-funded public services).
We covered a lot of ground—literally and figuratively—from drinking water systems, to transportation funding, to public safety and everything in between. One thing was clear: counties know their communities best, and they need flexibility, resources, and fewer bureaucratic headaches to keep things moving forward. I couldn’t agree more!
It’s always refreshing to have straight-shooting, practical conversations with the folks who are doing the work on the ground. We’re on the same page about making government work smarter, not harder, and I’m excited to keep working alongside them to push for common-sense solutions that actually help Minnesotans.
Big thanks to Polk and Clay Counties for making the trip and sharing their perspectives. The work doesn’t stop here—let’s keep the momentum going!

Blue Jackets, Big Dreams: Celebrating FFA Week!
1
Meeting with the amazing FFA members from Fosston, MN during National FFA Week was an absolute joy! Seeing all those blue corduroy jackets in action truly gave me a sense of pride—these young leaders are the future of agriculture, hard work, and community service. Their passion for leadership, farming, and agriculture is contagious, and I’m beyond grateful for the chance to celebrate them. FFA isn’t just about crops and cattle; it’s about shaping responsible, service-minded young adults, and I’m thrilled to support their journey. Keep rocking those jackets, FFA—you’re doing great things!

Small Businesses, Big Impact!
1
This week, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the incredible team at the Northwest Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and let me tell you—they are the real MVPs when it comes to fueling local businesses! From helping bright ideas turn into successful startups to making sure established businesses are running smoother than a well-oiled machine, the SBDC is doing work that truly matters.
Our conversation was a mix of brainstorming, problem-solving, and just a little bit of "how do we make sure the red tape stays out of the way?" The SBDC is all about helping businesses thrive, and I’m 100% on board with that. After all, when our small businesses succeed, we all win.
I’m pumped to keep pushing policies that break down barriers, fuel innovation, and keep the entrepreneurial spirit alive and kicking here in Minnesota. Thanks to the NW SBDC for being the champions of our local economy—can’t wait to keep working together to make sure Minnesota stays open for business!

Sweeping Success in Crookston!
Folks, we have some champions among us! The 2025 University of Minnesota Crookston Campus and Community Curling League has wrapped up another exciting season, and from everything I’ve heard, it was an absolute blast! With 52 players, 13 teams, and countless moments of strategy, skill, and maybe even a little friendly smack talk, this season was a "rock"-solid success. (See what I did there?)
A huge congratulations to our podium finishers:
*Team Syrup* – Clearly bringing that sweet, smooth style to the ice!
*Team Goode* – Living up to their name with a strong second-place finish!
*Team Minakwa* – Proving they’ve got the "stones" to compete with the best!
Congratulations to all the players who made this season one to remember. Whether you were throwing takeouts or just there for the post-game fun, your enthusiasm and sportsmanship are what make community leagues like this so special. Well done, Crookston curlers—Looking forward to seeing more great curling action in the future!

Homegrown Magic in the Minnesota Sky
1
One of the best parts of living in Minnesota? Stepping outside on a crisp night and catching the northern lights dancing right over our own backyard. No long road trips, no fancy resorts—just a front-row seat to one of God’s greatest shows, right here at home. It’s the kind of beauty that makes you pause, breathe it in, and remember why we love this place so much.

Finding Grace in Each Day
1
This is a picture of my wife Rosalynd having a good day. Today she is undergoing daily treatment for stage 4 cancer that has metastasized to her brain.
I feel that I owe you this explanation for why you have seen me off the House floor some, and voting remotely. I am with her today for one of her treatments and a visit with her oncologist to review recent tests as we plan the next phases of her treatment. She has also swindled me into taking her to her hairdresser tonight.
We have faith in the miracle of the resurrection, and we are praying for another miracle—that she can have more good days with us.
Thank you to all of my colleagues and staff who have gone the extra mile to allow me to be with her some of the time as we navigate this process. And thank you to anyone who is waiting for a response to a call or email. I will balance time between home and St. Paul as best I can.
We ask for your prayers. Thank you!
