New Dems Host Press Conference to Announce Vision and Policy Priorities for the 119th Congress

This week, New Dems announced our vision and policy priorities for the 119th Congress. This also includes New Dems' nine Working Groups and Task Forces, which will deliver results for the American people

The New Dem Vision on the path forward is built on three pillars: economic growth and opportunity, healthy and safe communities, and strong national security and defense. New Dems will enact this vision through the nine New Dem Working Groups: Economic Growth & Cost of Living; Immigration & Border Security; Housing, Infrastructure, & Transportation; Workforce & Education; Health Care; Rural Revitalization; Environment, Climate & Clean Energy; Innovation & Technology; and, National Security.

The New Democrat Coalition Leadership team unveiled its vision and policy platform for the 119th Congress, stating New Dems are proud to stand with Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, and the entire Democratic Caucus to confront and combat the Trump Administration’s assault on our Constitution, our values, and our national security. As the strong voice of the center, New Dems are committed to demonstrating that Democrats are the party of bold ideas and are here to take on both our biggest challenges and greatest opportunities. Our Members are willing and eager to find new approaches to legislating and governing.

The group laid out a vision built on three pillars: economic growth and opportunity, healthy and safe communities, and strong national security and defense. The 110+ members of the Coalition will collaborate within nine distinct Working Groups, each one tasked with addressing a core sector of American life—from lowering prices to increasing housing, from education and health care to border security and immigration reform. Within the scope of each Working Group, targeted Task Forces will address key topics to gain deeper understanding of the issues and develop actionable, commonsense policy recommendations and legislative frameworks.

New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair for Policy Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) and Vice Chair for Communications Marc Veasey (TX-33) issued a statement after New Dems and House Democrats unanimously opposed the House Republicans budget resolution on the House floor:

“The House Republican budget is a disgrace. It betrays working families by slashing funding for critical programs they rely on to help pay their bills and keep food on the table, all while lining the pockets of Republican megabillionaire donors like Elon Musk with trillions of dollars in deficit-raising tax cuts.

“The American people have made it clear that their number one priority is lowering prices. But instead of bringing down the cost of health care, House Republicans are plotting to eviscerate Medicaid with $880 billion in cuts, jeopardizing health care coverage for many hardworking families and raising costs for 70 million vulnerable Americans. Instead of reducing the sky-high price of groceries, House Republicans are taking a $230 billion wrecking ball to SNAP, which 40 million Americans need to feed their families – including one in five children.

“Speaker Johnson and Congressional Republicans are selling out the middle class and working families at every turn, and selling out our kids’ future by adding $1.6 trillion to our national debt. New Dems and our House Democratic colleagues stand united in rejecting this disastrous plan, and we’ll keep fighting back to lower costs and improve the lives of all Americans.
