“We prefer self-determination to servitude.”
— Patrice Lumumba
John,
Patrice Lumumba made history by becoming the first prime minister of an independent Congo, leading the effort to free the Congolese people from decades of exploitation and oppression under colonialism.
But Lumumba’s impact spanned much further than that lone achievement.
His fight for liberation wasn’t about just one country; it was for Black people everywhere.
Lumumba knew he had to continue breaking down systems of imperialism until
every African country reclaimed its rightful power.
He gave speeches about independence that shook the world.
He faced resistance from foreign powers and local leaders.
He showed everyone that the fight for freedom and justice is a global effort.
And no matter what threats were thrown his way, Lumumba’s commitment to his people was unwavering.
Lumumba’s vision was so powerful that people carry his ideas forward today.
In 2025, at this moment, we can’t wait. We continue Lumumba’s fight, demanding control over our land, our resources, and our futures. We follow in Lumumba’s steps and continue to honor his legacy by fighting to make his vision a reality.
In solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
