The annual Conservative Political Action Conference got underway just outside Washington, D.C. last Thursday. CPAC has largely abandoned its libertarian-leaning roots to embrace the aggressive authoritarianism of President Donald Trump, the MAGA movement, and its overseas partners. This year’s conference is triumphalist in tone, not surprising given Trump’s election and combative first 30 days.

This builds on the work we did during Trump’s first term and remains a crucial tool for understanding the ongoing threats posed by his judicial appointees.
Trump is moving fast to gut the civil service, replacing experienced public servants with political loyalists who answer only to him. His Schedule F plan would make it easier to fire career federal workers – and even easier to stack the government with cronies.
