Pond Hockey Rink Removal
With warmer temperatures upon us, now is the time to remove items you've placed on area lakes and ponds. If you have created a hockey rink, this means it is time to start taking nets, lights, chairs, benches and other rink items off of ponds.
Ice may soon become too unsafe to walk on, and items left behind will sink to the bottom of our ponds. These items can cause water pollution, as well as create a flooding and safety hazard, as they can interfere with the City’s storm sewer and drainage system.
Please remove any items that you have placed on ponds, as well as any trash or debris, within the next week. The deadline for ice fishing shelter removal on Minnesota lakes is March 3; this is a good guideline to follow for items placed on ponds as well.
Sibley Plant
Sibley Plant Project Update
Xcel Energy is making improvements to the Sibley Propane Gas facility at 800 Sibley Memorial Hwy. Through March 8, Xcel is running 24-hour operations on site as preparation for the final steps in the project. During this time, residents may notice some extra lights at night; however, noise levels will be at the same decibel as a standard vehicle running on idle.
Starting in March, to complete this project, large trucks, trailers, paint coating equipment and backhoes are required. This type of activity will tentatively occur until the end of 2025. With this type of activity, noise may transfer from the work site to the neighboring areas.
Xcel will follow the City ordinance requirements for construction work hours.
Dog
Pick-up Pet Waste
In all seasons, remember that not picking up after your pet is not okay. Dog feces carry bacteria, including e-coli, and sometimes parasites that can enter and contaminate our surface waters. When dog and pet feces is left behind, rain and snow melt washes it into our streams, lakes, wetlands, and rivers, either via the stormwater conveyance system (storm drains in the street and stormwater pipes), or by overland flow. City Code 5-3-3. D. also requires pet owners to remove excrement left on any property, public or private, that is not owned by the dog owner. In all cases however, whether on your own property or others’, clean up after your pet as soon as possible in order to protect our surface waters.
