Barnard. An anti-Israel

demonstration and sit-in at Barnard College ended Wednesday night when protesters vacated Milbank Hall after receiving a final warning from administrators and after the President and Dean agreed to meet with three of them. The protest began when approximately 60 masked demonstrators stormed the building, injuring a school employee who required hospital treatment. The sit-in, which lasted for hours, was organized in response to the expulsion of two Barnard students who took part in disrupting a "History of Modern Israel" class at Columbia. Barnard officials said that "no promises of amnesty were made, and no concessions were negotiated." Barnard President Laura Rosenbury condemned the
protesters for attempting to "undermine Barnard's core values of respect, inclusion, and academic excellence.” There are reports that additional protests have taken place on and around the campus since the sit-in.

Oklahoma Schools. Oklahoma lawmakers

advanced two bills that would formally adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism into state law and educational policies. Senate Bill 942, which requires K-12 schools and higher education institutions to integrate IHRA into their codes of conduct, passed the Senate Education Committee by a 7-3 vote. Senate Bill 991, which would enshrine the definition into state law, passed the Judiciary Committee unanimously. Both bills aim to strengthen protections against antisemitic discrimination in Oklahoma schools. The bills will next go to the full Senate.

U. of Oklahoma. Speaking of education concerns in Oklahoma… earlier this month, the University of Oklahoma’s Student Government Association
[link removed]
decided to recognize its Students for Justice in Palestine chapter, giving the group access to funding and access to space on campus for events. As the
[link removed]
Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs noted in its coverage of this decision, it comes “even as state officials are considering legislation that targets antisemitism on state college campuses.” The SJP chapter had called for anti-Israel BDS goals, including calling for a boycott of last year’s Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, which it termed the “death bowl.” The game went on despite SJP concerns, but alas, Oklahoma was nipped by Navy.

Loyola. A coalition of six student groups at Loyola University New Orleans has petitioned the administration to

divest from Israel and oil companies, increase faculty diversity and address issues like tuition costs and fair wages. The petition argues that Loyola’s investments and policies contradict its Jesuit Catholic values, stating that the university is "complicit in harm" through its current practices and investments.

Ontario. McMaster University has

suspended the anti-Israel student group Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) and launched an investigation into the organization. The university has not disclosed specific details about the suspension, citing the need to maintain the integrity of the process. SPHR responded to the suspension angrily, accusing the administration of “institutional violence” and vowing that “resistance and solidarity cannot and will not be stifled.” Hillel Ontario applauded the university’s decision, pointing to SPHR’s history of engaging in antisemitic behavior. Another Canadian school, McGill denounced the SPHR branch there after it described Hamas’
October 7 massacre as ‘heroic;’ the school required the group to stop using the university’s name.

Dhillon Marshals Support. President Trump’s nominee to head the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice made
[link removed]
strong statements about campus antisemitism during her confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill. Harmeet Dhillon said: “We’ve seen antisemitism sweep the nation, and it is very problematic that many people of the Jewish faith are barred by professors and fellow students from access to the classroom.” She also indicated a commitment to enforcing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which under the Biden Administration was the purview of the Department of Education; it is not yet clear who will handle those cases in the Trump Administration. Left unaddressed at the hearing was Dhillon’s past opposition to the Antisemitism Awareness Act.

Starr Power. Boston University sophomore Guy Starr, co-President of BU Students for Israel, highlights how
[link removed]
BU is holding firm against antisemitism. He also calls on the school to do even more. BU’s Board of Trustees recently rejected petitions calling for divestment from Israel, with President Melissa Gilliam stating that "the endowment is no longer the vehicle for political debate." Starr criticizes SJP for conducting what he describes as a "sham referendum" on BDS that was ultimately nullified by the student government. Despite the decision, the student government has announced another referendum on divesting from "companies actively complicit in human rights violations in the Middle East," which Starr calls a smokescreen for antisemitism. He urges the school's administration to
discourage further referenda that might compromise Jewish students' safety.

A Heartbreaking Hotel. As hostages held in Gaza have been released, a special Israeli
[link removed]
‘hostage hotel’ has provided them with a comfortable environment to gradually come to terms with their new normal. Many have health issues from injuries to infections to malnutrition, and others have emotional and psychological distress, so staying here, alongside other hostages is a vital step in recovery. As Michael Levy, whose brother Or was released earlier this month explained: “For the hostages, it helps – in the hotel you can see them talking between themselves about their experiences, even if they never met before.” He noted that the hostages staying there have shabbat dinner together, along with their families. “I know it sounds strange, but the
Friday nights have become fun. Everyone eats and then we play board games, we chat, we laugh.”

A Journey of Strength. Forty years after Operation Moses, Ethiopian Israelis gathered in Jerusalem to

honor the daring mission that brought thousands to Israel. Survivors recalled their harrowing trek through Sudan, many losing loved ones along the way, but never losing hope of reaching Jerusalem. The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Netanyahu and Jewish Agency Chairman Doron Almog, highlighted the community’s resilience and contributions to Israeli society. It also came days after the release of Avera Mengistu, an Ethiopian Israeli held captive by Hamas for nearly a decade—sparking much criticism over how long it took to secure his freedom.
