This budget will jeopardize the lives of millions of U.S. citizens and undocumented people alike.
Trump’s plans would more than triple the scope of immigration detention to detain over 120,000 people, including U.S. citizens and families — all while lowering already dangerous detention standards, exacerbating abuse and medical neglect, and broadening the scope of people targeted for detention.
Profiteering off of cruelty has long been the point of this administration. This funding will go directly to the pockets of billionaire owners of private detention centers and other contractors. This budget is proof that MAGA Republicans will stop at nothing to hurt workers, U.S.-born and immigrants alike, if it enriches them personally.
Passing this budget resolution through the House is only the first step in the reconciliation process. Now, Congress has a choice to make.
They can either stand with everyday working people or hand an obscene amount of money to Trump and Elon Musk to tear families apart and eviscerate the very resources people need to live and survive.
