Dear John,
Ramadan begins tomorrow, but what is it, and why is it important for refugees and people forced to flee?
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating or drinking anything during the daylight hours during Ramadan, in order to show self-discipline and to empathise with people who are less fortunate.
Ramadan can be a difficult time for refugees and people who have been uprooted from their communities. For them, it is a time for prayer, reflections and good deeds, helping in the community and spending time with family. The holy month for them highlights the lives and loved ones that are absent, while fasting is incredibly hard for people who are already struggling with hunger.
Could you provide some comfort for refugees and displaced people during Ramadan? By making a donation to UNHCR, you can help protect vulnerable people during this holy month, and ensure that families have access to food and clean drinking water once they break their fast.
