Dear friends and neighbors,

We are wrapping up our third week of GOP control, and with just a few short weeks remaining until the special election in HD40B, we’re very close to seeing how the legislature will ultimately break down. It’s an exciting time, and the next few weeks are sure to bring plenty of action. Before we dive into next week’s plans, I want to take a moment to highlight what happened this week. There's a lot to cover, and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you. Thank you for taking the time to read my update!

FFA Group Meeting

Although last week was National FFA Week, we welcomed many FFA students from across the state to the Capitol early this week. I had the chance to meet with a group of local FFA students with several other legislators. As a former member, I understand how impactful this program can be and I admire the commitment of the students I met. Thank you all for taking the time to visit and talk with me!

IBEW 292 and 343

I also had the chance to meet with members of the local IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) 292 and 343. It was great to meet with these tradesmen and discuss their challenges and desires for the legislation, and I truly appreciated hearing their insights on how we can better support the skilled trades in our state. Their dedication to their craft and to ensuring that the industry continues to thrive is inspiring, and I look forward to working together to address their needs.

Faribault Students

In the spirit of Public School Week, I had the opportunity to meet with several groups focused on education and our public schools. First, I had the pleasure of meeting with a group of students from our Faribault schools. It’s always encouraging to connect with and listen to the next generation whenever I can. Thank you to these students for taking the time to visit the Capitol, engage with legislators, and share their perspectives. Their enthusiasm and thoughtful questions remind us of the importance of investing in our public education system for the future.

Special Ed. Professionals

Another group that I met with was professionals in special education. They are true public servants, investing in the lives and education of our students with special needs. They face unique challenges and it was an honor to meet and talk with them. I was deeply impressed by their dedication and the passion they bring to their work, ensuring that every student has the support they need to succeed. Their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of students is truly inspiring.

HF1014

I am proud to share that my first co-authored bill, HF1014 [ [link removed] ], has been introduced and is hopefully heading to the House floor in the near future. This bill has bipartisan support and I look forward to seeing it pass on the House floor.

Riley Gaines, HF12, and Pam Bondi

The big news: next week, we are hosting 12-time NCAA All-American swimmer and girls' sports advocate Riley Gaines for a rally before we hear HF12 on the House floor. Riley Gaines will be joining us in support of female athletes in Minnesota and across the country. As I touched on last week, there has been a lot of back and forth on this issue between officials in Minnesota and at the federal level. Beginning with the MSHSL’s decision to ignore President Trump’s Executive Order to ban boys from participating in girl’s sports, we have now received a letter from Attorney General (AG) Pam Bondi. Bondi addressed this letter (pictured below) to MN AG Keith Ellison and MSHSL Executive Director Erich Martens.

I am grateful for the support of Bondi and Trump at the federal level in the fight to protect our female athletes. As a dad, I cannot imagine my daughter having to compete in high school sports against her male peers, due to unfair competition conditions as well as the physical harm it could cause her. If you are able, I encourage you to attend the rally to show your support for our female athletes and hear from Riley Gaines.
