George “Stoney” Pavlik has a personal connection to our cause:

“In 1985, my seven-year-old daughter, Audra, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Our lives were forever changed as we navigated strict glucose monitoring and dietary adjustments. And when Audra experienced kidney failure, I donated one of my own kidneys on her 26th birthday. Tragically, we lost our daughter to complications from diabetes when she was just 34.

As many of us have come to learn, our most precious asset—our health—is fragile. It can be taken from us, or from someone we love, in the blink of an eye. Diabetes is especially scary because it’s so common and because so many people don’t even know they have it.

Audra would have been 47 this year. Nothing I can do will bring her back, but I have devoted myself to defeating this terrible epidemic so that, one day, no parent will have to go through what we did—and so that all our loved ones with diabetes can live long and full lives.
