Email from Rep. Malliotakis Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn   My friend, Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL INTRODUCING LEGISLATION TO COMMEMORATE AMERICA'S 250TH ANNIVERSARY READ MORE In conjunction with President Trump’s plan for a "grand celebration" in honor of the United States' 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, I’ve introduced legislation to mint a commemorative coin that will generate private funds to support Tunnel2Towers, an organization that started right here on Staten Island but is nationally known for its amazing work supporting veterans, Gold Star & first responders’ families. INTRODUCING LEGISLATION TO BAN CRUEL AND UNNECESSARY ANIMAL TESTING I am introducing legislation banning cruel and unnecessary animal testing by our federal government. With new technology & more efficient methods, we should not be spending billions annually here and abroad to torture dogs, cats, monkeys and other defenseless animals! WATCH KEEPING OUR PROMISE TO 9/11 VICTIMS I am proud to join a bipartisan, bicameral group of my colleagues in reintroducing the American Victims of Terror Compensation Act, reinforcing our commitment to supporting victims of terrorism including the 9/11 attacks. We must ensure our government continues to fulfill its promise to “Never Forget.” HONORING STATEN ISLAND'S BLACK ANGELS Over 70 years ago, 300 courageous African American nurses now known as the “Black Angels,” left their families to care for thousands of tuberculosis patients at Staten Island’s Sea View Hospital at a time when they didn't even have equal rights. I recognized their contributions to our city & country in honor of Black History Month. WATCH CRACKING DOWN ON STOLEN CHECK FRAUD READ MORE The Ways & Means Committee unanimously passed my legislation, The Recovery of Stolen Checks Act, ensuring taxpayers who have had their tax refund checks stolen in the mail can receive a replacement via direct deposit. Current IRS policies have prevented this, often leading to second and third replacement checks being stolen as well.   IN THE DISTRICT CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION I joined the community in celebrating Lunar New Year along 18th Avenue in Brooklyn. We wish everyone a happy, healthy & prosperous year of the snake. HOLY CROSS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH 60TH ANNIVERSARY I joined Brooklyn’s Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church to celebrate its 60th anniversary of faith, fellowship & service. Its seven original founders never envisioned just how much this parish would grow and positively contribute to the Bay Ridge community. JOINED STATEN ISLAND ZOO ON GROUNDHOG'S DAY Every year, this event brings our community together. Staten Island takes pride in hosting the most accurate groundhog in America—Staten Island Chuck! We look forward to an early spring!   IN CASE YOU MISSED IT   Trump asked to shut down NYC ‘injection sites’ where drug addicts consume with impunity The Trump administration is being urged to shut down two controversial city-approved “safe” injection sites — where drug addicts can use illegal drugs like meth, heroin and cocaine under supervision. Republican US Rep. Nicole Malliotakis is asking Trump to step in to close the government-sponsored centers in East Harlem and Washington Heights, saying they violate federal law. “These sites not only enable but also perpetuate illegal drug use,” Malliotakis wrote in a Feb. 11 letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, a copy of which was obtained by The Post. READ MORE Rep. Nicole Malliotakis floats new proposed tax cuts for seniors in pair of bills Staten Island Rep. Nicole Malliotakis floated a pair of bills Monday that would give elderly Americans deeper tax cuts, The Post can reveal, as House Republicans are totaling up deductions for a massive package they want to send to President Trump’s desk later this year. Mallotakis, the lone Republican repping New York City in Congress, introduced the Bonus Tax Relief for America’s Seniors Act and the Tax Relief Unleashed for Seniors by Trump (TRUST) Act to increase deductions on the taxable income of Americans over the age of 65 and enjoying Social Security benefits. READ MORE Rep. Malliotakis to Newsmax: 'Incredible' Trump Axed NYC Congestion Toll Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., said Thursday on Newsmax that it's "incredible" that President Donald Trump's administration has withdrawn the federal approvals for the much-maligned New York City congestion pricing plan. "Sixty-five percent of New Yorkers said they did not want this tax, that this was unfair to the residents that I represent in the outer boroughs who now have to pay an additional toll to drive into the city center in the city in which they live," Malliotakis told "Wake Up America." READ MORE Rep. Malliotakis to Newsmax: America 'Winning' as Trump Secures Border Malliotakis contrasted Trump's latest actions with Biden's border policies, arguing that the previous administration had allowed cartels to "control our southern border" and facilitate the smuggling of fentanyl and other deadly drugs. "We are in a much better situation today than we were during the last four years under President Joe Biden, who allowed it to be a free-for-all, enrich the drug cartels, and allowed them to have access and basically control our southern border," she said. READ MORE Malliotakis Cautions Against "Unintended Consequences" of Rash DOGE Cuts On CNN, Malliotakis said we must find efficiencies and root out fraud & wasteful spending to address our nation’s $37 trillion debt but it must be done in a thoughtful and responsible way to avoid unintended consequences, like the rash decision that led to 16 9/11 Healthcare Program workers being terminated, a decision that she and her colleagues got immediately reversed.
