BLACK LIVES MATTER.
America continues to grieve after the tragic death of George Floyd. Forcibly restrained during an arrest, Floyd repeatedly told officers "I can’t breathe” while one of them kneeled on his neck. Across the country, peaceful protesters continue to call for justice and stand shoulder to shoulder in confronting racism and police violence.
Minneapolis City Councilmember Andrea Jenkins, who represents the district where Floyd was killed, joined CNN to discuss the case, highlighting the horrific treatment of Black men, cis Black women and trans women. For the full story, including the video footage of the arrest, please click here. To skip the arrest, click here.
City Councilmember Jenkins also opened a press conference with an emotional rendition of "Amazing Grace", before offering her condolences and solidarity to George Floyd, his family, and America's Black community. You can watch the full clip here.
After a passionate speech from the Colorado House Floor defending her fellow members of the Black Caucus, who were ridiculed for staying home despite contracting COVID-19, Representative Leslie Herod highlighted Black Lives Matter protesters at the Capitol calling for justice.
Florida state Representative Shevrin Jones, now running for the Florida state Senate, is promoting an upcoming Black Live Matter protest.
