** Things have gotten so bad at Planned Parenthood that even the New York Times is paying attention
------------------------------------------------------------
On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives passed a budget framework bill that could lead to the defunding of the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The framework is not a budget itself but rather a guide for the budget process.
Calls have been growing louder in recent months for federal funding of Planned Parenthood to be withdrawn. This week’s move by Congress makes the chances of it actually happening in the near future a lot more realistic.
Planned Parenthood’s woes don’t stop there. In recents days, the New York Times published a damning report detailing dangerous and dismal clinic conditions at various abortion clinics operated by the group across the US. The article titled “Botched Care and Tired Staff: Planned Parenthood in Crisis” is extraordinary for lots of reasons, aside from the horrific things it discloses. Most surprising of all is the fact that the New York Times is actually publishing stories that put Planned Parenthood on the defence. Not long ago, it would have been unthinkable for New York’s ‘paper of record’ to blow the whistle on any inconvenient truths at all concerning Planned Parenthood.

Madness of new “buffer zone” law on full display
When asked if praying by a window in your own home could now be a crime, if you live within an abortion clinic “buffer zone”, Scottish politician, Gillian Mackay MSP said: “That depends on who’s passing the window.”
The same politician has repeatedly accused pro-life advocates of misleading the public for drawing attention to the insanely draconian provisions of the new Scottish “buffer zone” law.
Fair play to Lois McLatchie Miller, in particular, for publicising this story and keeping it in the news.

** Assisted Suicide to ease financial burdens not ruled out in UK Bill
------------------------------------------------------------
Assisted suicide could be allowed in the UK for those wanting to end their lives to reduce financial burdens on their families, under Labour MP Kim Leadbeater’s Assisted Suicide Bill.
During a recent Committee Stage debate on her Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, Leadbeater was asked if people seeking assisted suicide to save their families money would be approved. She repeatedly declined to rule out the possibility.
In an exchange reported by Right to Life UK, Danny Kruger MP, a key opponent of the Bill, asked Leadbeater whether she would be “content” with someone choosing assisted death to save their family money. Leadbeater described the issue as more complex than Kruger suggested.

** US rejoins the pro-life Geneva Consensus Declaration
------------------------------------------------------------
The United States has officially rejoined the pro-life Geneva Consensus Declaration. The Geneva Consensus Declaration was signed in 2020 by 37 nations at UN level.
It seeks to protect the sovereignty of independent nations, particularly in the developing world, to adhere to pro-life laws. It explicitly seeks to curb the neo-colonial influence of transnational corporations, NGOs, and (Western) governments from pushing pro-abortion policies on the developing world.
The previous US administration withdrew from the Geneva Consensus Declaration in 2021, but the new administration has taken the decision to support it again. This is to be welcomed. In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US is “committed to supporting families, promoting women’s health, and protecting children at all stages of life.”
