Further steps towards economic recovery

First Minister Arlene Foster speaking earlier this week.

Further relaxations to the COVID-19 restrictions have been announced to take effect from 8th June providing the R-Value in Northern Ireland remains below 1.

First Minister Arlene Foster announced yesterday that if the conditions remain then commencing on 8th June:



💍 Small outdoor weddings can take place, with a maximum of 10 people.

🐕 People will be able to look after pets & non-farm animals, allowing dog grooming & horse trainings.

⛹️‍♂️ Outdoor sports courts can reopen.

🏨  Hotels can take advance bookings 'at risk'.

🚗 Outdoor retail, such as car sales can re-open. Also permitted would be stores with lower-frequency customer visits that are accessed directly from the street or retail park. This would include furniture, electrical and mobile phone shops.


Today, Economy Minister Diane Dodds also published her outline plan for economic recovery.

‘Charting a course for the economy: our first steps’, which has been approved by the Executive, is the first in a series of publications from the Department for the Economy looking at how to move forward from the economic damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

DAERA Minister Edwin Poots

  • Announced £360,000 support for the aquaculture sector. 
     
  • Reviewed the pause on routine inspections and announced that some will restart over coming days.
     
  • Announced preparations to gradually lift restrictions across the DAERA estate and has been working with other sites such as parks, nature reserves and walking routes to prepare for their re-opening.
     
  • Gave his support to a UK-wide campaign that aims to encourage people to drink more milk.

  • Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Sammy Wilson have written to the Chancellor asking him to extend the self-employed support scheme. 
     
  • Joanne Bunting MLA highlighted the need to scale up neighbourhood policing as we recover from COVID-19.
     
  • Carla Lockhart welcomed the £5million allocation by Education Minister Peter Weir to counselling services within schools.
