Fighting for gun safety and standing up to gun extremism would be impossible without our thousands of incredible volunteers—and we count on grassroots donors to ensure we have the resources we need to keep going strong. Donate today to help defend gun safety and fuel Everytown's life-saving work.
Yes, it can be hard to follow the news these days.
That's why we wanted to share three key updates you should know about gun safety and the work to end gun violence:
- Kash Patel confirmed as FBI director—and also acting Director of the ATF: Everytown strongly opposed gun extremist Kash Patel as Trump's pick as FBI Director, driving more than 100,000 messages from our grassroots supporters to their U.S. Senators. In an unprecedented move, Trump also named Patel acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)—which plays a crucial role in reducing gun crime and violence.
- Right-wing podcaster and former NRATV personality Dan Bongino tapped as FBI deputy director: Dan Bongino, a popular right-wing political podcaster, has been tapped as a deputy director for the FBI under Kash Patel's leadership. Bongino once hosted a show on the NRA's now-defunct video channel NRATV and has a long track record of extreme positions on guns and gun safety laws.
- Volunteers continue to flood state capitols across the country to demand stronger gun laws: Just this week, hundreds of volunteers descended on their state capitols in Juneau, Denver, and Austin to demand action from lawmakers. So far this year, volunteers with Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action have organized Advocacy Days in twelve state capitols—including our Virginia chapter's biggest Advocacy Day ever!
With more events planned in the weeks ahead, our grassroots advocacy at the state and local level is more important than ever amid the Trump administration's threat to gun safety.
Rest assured, Everytown is closely tracking every development that can affect gun safety. We are ready to respond to new threats at a moment's notice while pressing ahead with our long-term strategy to reduce gun violence in America.
The reality is, going toe-to-toe with the gun lobby and the Trump administration while fighting every day to save lives from gun violence requires a lot of financial resources—and we count on grassroots donors like you to keep us going strong. Today, can we count on a gift of $9 or whatever you can pitch in today to power our life-saving work?
With your help, our movement is a powerful force in the mission to end gun violence. We couldn't do it without you.
Thank you,
Everytown for Gun Safety
