NCRC Announces New SNAP E&T Workforce Development Training Series

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition recently announced a new Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) Workforce Development training series as part of the 3-year $1.3 million grant from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).  [Read more]

 

NCRC Opens New Housing Counseling Services Grant Application As Part Of Its Field Empowerment Fund

“This new program will not only help many American families receive the support they need to stay in their homes and grow their generational wealth during these turbulent times, but also it shows the good work that can be done when banks are willing to enter into dialogue,” said Jesse Van Tol, NCRC President and CEO. “We worked hard with KeyBank to identify an effective path forward. These grants and the direct services they will fund are the first harvest from that hard work. We persisted and now we are seeing the benefits of this persistence.” [Read more]

Federal Worker Layoffs And Political Conflict Create An Uncertain Future: February 2025 Race, Jobs And The Economy Update

In January, the economy added 143,000 jobs while the unemployment rate receded a tenth of a percentage point to 4.0%. The private sector added 111,000 jobs in January, all in the service sector. Gains from November and December were made upward by 100,000 jobs. [Read more]

Johnston Square: Development Without Displacement

Preventing displacement of current residents is a top concern for RJSNO and ReBUILD Metro as revitalization proceeds. A 2019 study conducted by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition determined that Baltimore experienced the fifth-highest rate of gentrification from 2000 to 2013, with five neighborhoods displacing an average of 673 Black residents. Chicago Non-Profit Transforming Vacant Land Stripped By Redlining, Other Discriminatory Practices.

"For generations, if the only thing you've ever seen is a vacant lot, sometimes it's difficult to imagine what else could be here," said Ghian Foreman. Foreman leads the Emerald South Economic Development Collaborative. It's a nonprofit working to transform 205 acres of vacant land through its Terra Firma initiative.
