Friend,
Nearly six months ago, an unspeakable tragedy occurred at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. A mass shooting that took the lives of four people and shattered the lives of students, teachers, and families.

In the face of this devastation, Georgia’s leaders reached out to multiple sources, looking for ways to improve school safety. Stand with Parkland [[link removed]] met with House Speaker Jon Burns and his staff. We discussed some ways they could begin the process of protecting Georgia’s schools. We have helped to craft a comprehensive school safer culture in Florida over the past seven years since our loved ones were murdered, and we suggested ways Georgia could move forward building on the framework they already had in place.
Here’s some of what Speaker Burns put in his bill:
* Ensuring every local school system has a threat assessment team in place to prevent targeted school violence
* More than $50 million for public schools across the state to build on prior investments in school safety and make Georgia schools safer
* Incentives provided to families who purchase safe storage equipment for firearms — saving lives by preventing access by children and encouraging responsible firearm ownership
We’re encouraged to see such decisive action being brought to the Georgia Legislature — because we know that school safety is not a partisan issue.
Friend, it takes all of us working together to ensure that no parent, student, or teacher ever has to fear for their safety in a school or classroom.
By focusing on key areas like safe firearm storage, increased mental health resources, and improved threat response systems, Georgia leaders are taking critical steps toward creating a safer learning environment for all students.
Stand with Parkland is proud to have been part of the team helping to make progress toward safer schools for all students across Georgia — but there’s more work to be done. Will you support our movement to prevent tragedy and end this cycle of firearm violence in all of America’s schools? [[link removed]?]
